I would just like to state, for my own records, that LJ/SA is really, really stupid. They annoy me beyond belief. More comments tomorrow afternoon.

Check out lj_biz and be sure to read the comments, because they're amazing.

FANDOM THEME SONG: PIRATES.

(Here's the link, if you haven't already seen it: http://never.draven.tripod.com/efw.htm . WTF, guys, WTF. Oh, and sorry for all the capslock.)

(ZOMG APPROPRIATE SONG YAYZ. Look up the lyrics. Seriously.)

Guys, what is the deal with LJ/6A? Can anybody tell me who the heck is running this circus, and why they haven't been beaten over the head yet? I mean, seriously. They learned nothing from the first Strikethrough in May.

And they took away the strikethrough! WHAT THE HELL. Do they think that's going to stop us from rallying or something? They are sadly mistaken if that's the case. Come on, people. W're fandom. You don't pull this shit on us and expect us to just lay down and take it. Honestly.

I don't even have that much involvement in fandom itself anymore, and I don't hang out in communities like pornish_pixies, but guys, seriously. LJ/6A won't stick to their TOS, which isn't even that clear, and it's pissing me off.

The last time this happened, I de-graded my account from Plus to Basic. Now, I'm strongly considering moving my journal elsewhere - likely GreatestJournal, where I already have an account as a backup holder for my many, many icons (speaking of which, I need to update it). Hell, I'll start keeping my blog of fucking MySpace if I have to - I've already posted stuff there that isn't on LJ anyway. But as a strong supporter of expression and as one who holds clearly-defined rules in high regard, I can't stand to support these kinds of shenanigans (yes, I said shenanigans!).

I'm going to do a full backup of my LJ - both accounts, since I've still got my old lilmizinsanity one - and from there I'll decide where to move. I don't expect anyone else to move with me. And I'll definitely be deleting lilmizinsanity; I may keep this one just so I can continue to read everyone's posts and stay in touch.

I am so sick of this shit.

Yo ho, all together,
Hoist the colours high!
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
Never shall we die!

LJ Strikethrough Part 2 (public)

LJ's response (FINALLY), posted this morning.

Here's what I see when I look at this: "Hi, yeah, we fucked up; now we're going to backpedal as much as we can! Watch! Backpedalbackpedalbackpedalbackpedal. Love ya! Please stay! Kthxbai!"

Perhaps I'm being harsh. But their title says it all: "we really screwed this one up." NO, REALLY. And while I generally believe that the LJ community will (...eventually) forgive them for this, I don't believe that a lot of people will forget. There's been a serious breach of trust here. Something as simple as a news post doesn't fix that automatically.

I'm glad to see, however, that they'll be reviewing the journals and communities they strikethrough'ed to reinstate the ones that were unjustly suspended. That, at least, is a step in the right direction.

...But friends, look at this paragraph:

"Another issue we needed to deal with was journals that used a thin veneer of fictional or academic interest in events and storylines that include child rape, pedophilia, and similar themes in order to actually promote these activities. While there are stories, essays, and discussions that include discussion of these issues in an effort to understand and prevent them, others use a pretext to promote these activities. It’s often very hard to tell the difference. As such, we intended to  have suspend reported journals that do not clearly and substantially object to these a reasonable person would think supported these activities. while at the same time portraying them. "

Nope, I didn't add those strikeouts.

Actually, I think it's that paragraph that kills the entire apology for me. Bad move, Barak Berkowitz. Very bad. I know I'm not the only one who will take offense to those strikeout phrases. And I'm not even one of the writers who was affected. Can you imagine the reaction from writers at pornish_pixies and other similar communities? I'm sorry, perhaps I have too much faith in fandom, but I doubt seriously that pornish_pixies and such used a "thin veneer of fictional or academic interest" to cover up illegal activity. It was a literary community. And the majority of the writing there didn't even have to do with pedophelia, molestation, and rape.

Augh. I've got to go to school. I'll be anxious to read the LJ community's (and especially fandom's) response to this.

LJ STRIKETHROUGH (public)

What the fuck, LJ, what the fuck.

I come on here to read my f-list, and suddenly I stumble upon Lavinia's entry, with the banner at the bottom. "What?" said I, and I clicked to read more.

Two hours later, and I am pissed.

Pissed beyond belief.

I personally didn't read a lot of smut-fic or things of that nature. And I sure as hell don't condone/ support child molestation and that sort of thing. (EW, CREEPY, WTF.) But people, this is about the freedom of expression. This is about abiding by one's own rules. This is about protecting LJ users' privacy. So many communities and journals have lost months - even years - worth of literary work and memories, forever. It's gone. That scares the hell out of me, because I use this journal as just that - a journal. And I like to look back at things. I plan on keeping a journal as long as I can so that someday I can tell my kids and grandkids, "See? This is what happened when I was your age!" It's a way for me to remember my own life. A way to keep track of things. (Hence why I plan on backing up my journal.)

And while I'm not a questionable user at the moment, this makes me start to believe that if some crazy person decided to look at my lj, they'd find a way to make me into one. Perhaps I'm just paranoid. I'll give you that. But folks, at the same time, how can something like this not disturb you? Victims' accounts being deleted because they wanted to talk about what happened to them? Support group communities? Whoever's doing the deleting isn't even looking into the content of what they're deleting. THIS IS BLATANT, IRRESPONSIBLE, AND UNJUST CENSORSHIP.

I refuse to support that. I refuse to monetarily support a site that knows this is a problem and doesn't say anything about it. And I refuse to support any kind of radical "Warriors For Innocence" group that isn't even decently legitimate.

So my journal is back to "Basic" status. It's going to stay that way. I hope LJ bleeds.
